Lynn Wilson Lupton
Sincere, organized and engaging are three words that describe Lynn Wilson Lupton on a professional and personal level. Having begun her career as a paralegal working closely with clients on a daily basis, Lynn came to Smith Debnam as a summer law clerk intent on establishing herself as an attorney. Her practice has grown as she has evolved into an experienced Partner in our firm. Lynn is a Board Certified Family Law Specialist by the North Carolina State Bar Board of Legal Specialization and was listed as a Rising Star in North Carolina Super Lawyers® that recognizes attorneys who are 40 or under, or who have been practicing for 10 years or less. Lynn was nominated by fellow lawyers, who have personally observed her in action — whether as opposing counsel or co-counsel, or through other firsthand courtroom observation.
It is her relational, common sense approach that puts Lynn’s clients at ease when dealing with difficult situations, while building confidence that she will responsibly handle their case. She is focused and prepared for all aspects of divorce and separation, regularly appearing in trials and hearings on behalf of her clients. In addition to representation in the courtroom, Lynn works tirelessly toward resolving clients’ divorce and separation issues outside of court through the negotiation of separation agreements, child custody arrangements and property distribution contracts, as well as through mediation and private settlement conferences.

What’s one personality trait that you feel makes you a good lawyer?
“I tend to be overly organized, which has served me well. I find that the way that I have organized my desk, my files, my calendar and my practice, in general, has prevented a level of stress for me that I have seen in other lawyers.”
What do you enjoy most about your job?
“I really enjoy the practice of family law and think that it suits my personality and my strengths. I enjoy working with individuals rather than with corporations, and I find it interesting to think through practical solutions for my clients’ legal questions. Family law touches so many different areas of the law that I am never bored and am always learning new things.”
What do you enjoy outside of work?
“Outside of the office, I enjoy wine, travel and finding new restaurants. I have always enjoyed music and the arts and would have loved to have done something creative for a living. I’m a huge fan of 1980s and 1990s rock music.”
